Here are 6 things that made me smile today: We got 3 1/2″ rain in 20 minutes last night. Happily, I’d harvested the shallots before it stormed, so this morning was a beautiful, relaxing time braiding! 
They are now hanging in the Lady Cottage in the potager to cure. This coneflower makes me smile because it is a random seedling that I moved from the farm, and it’s my favorite color, a pale peachy-apricot. 
Snapdragons from seed can be delightful, because there are always a few surprises in color and blends: (These are Liberty Bronze by name.)
The same can be said of growing rudbeckia from seed, and then allowing them to reseed. Some amazingly beautiful and varied results can be found: 
These were originally Chim-Chimnee, which I adore!
These lilies are actually taller than I am, which is saying something! And the fragrance!
And finally (since I’m limited to six!) These Minnesota Midget melons make me smile because they are already baseball sized and full of promise for sweetness to come!

Howdy, how lovely to have a Six from the US. Super impressed by your shallots, thats quite a haul! I am growing some rudbeckia and helenium from seed this year, all 2nd generation, i am hopong for some good colours too. See you again next week? They are so easy…just start them early. I usually seed two batches, about a month apart, so when the first batch takes a bloom break, the second batch is coming on strong.

I love the way that you’ve braided the shallots. I remember my Gran sitting outside doing that. Your echinacea is a cery pretty colour.
